Hi,

Another great feature that should be quite easy to integrate would be Tomcat with Java http://jakarta.apache.org/ with Sun Java VM

This would open up LXADMIN to run a number of existing application easily further adding to its functionality

Here is an example
Server Information
Tomcat Version JVM Version JVM Vendor OS Name OS Version OS Architecture
Apache Tomcat/5.5.9 1.5.0_05-b05 Sun Microsystems Inc. Linux 2.6.9-023stab032.1 i386

Tomcat support is in the cards, but will take some more time.

Thanks.

It would be great to be able to control whether we are able to offer it per domain, per application (on a single tomcat installation), or even (my favorite wish list item) assign specific heap size per Tomcat user/domain. I was trying to figure out how to do this last one with heap sizes, at this point it would require multiple Tomcat installs with a setenv.sh in the bin directory of each. Might not be great for those with disk space at a premium.

I see that this topic has been up for sometime. I agree having Tomcat availability in LxAdmin would be great.

Allowing the Administrator to install it by per domain would be even greater. And if the domain is activated with Tomcat/JSP, giving the owner accessibility to his domain's tomcat logs would help too.

CPanel has official support and DA has unofficial support for DA. I am looking forward to see it appear in Lxadmin soon. Currently managing my domains with tomcat outside of lxadmin and it is rather a hassle... Very Happy

If your going to integrate a Java server you should go all the way and integrate JBoss or GlassFish. It would give you a jump over what other control panels offer.

Yes, we will integrate JBoss. It would be quite trivial.

thanks.

Hi,

Do you perhaps have an ETA on when Tomcat in LxAdmin will be available? We currently have a few clients with Tomcat VPS' on WebMin, and it would be nice to convert them to LxAdmin instead.

The problem is mainly that of priority. I am currently working on live migrate for xen, which will be released by sunday. After that I will create a basic framework for a java applet server. I will open source the code, and someone will have to pick it up. :-)

thanks.

LxHelp,

Pending when you will integrate TOMCAT into Lxadmin; will it break Lxadmin to install TOMCAT on our server?

Please advise.

Thanks....

No, it will definitely not break anything. You can always do everything outside of lxadmin.

thanks.

Thanks, we will find a way to work with TOMCAT outside lxadmin. BUT, we eagerly await its integration into Lxadmin.

Lxadmin doesn't generally interfere with any of the system programs.

Are you making any custom changes to /home/httpd/domain.com/conf/lxadmin.domain.com file?

How exactly are you installing Tomcat? And how are you running it?

You will need to do it outside of lxadmin. Currently we don't support it. If someone can tell me what are the configurations needed, maybe, I can try adding it.

It would quite trivial though.

+1 for Tomcat/JBoss/etc.
Is there an ETA on this?

What's the total poll result? Ask one of the moderators to make this sticky.

Current issue is that tomcat is not an integral part of CentOS, and we will need to prepare RPMS and provide it separately, which is going to be a pain to maintain.

thanks.

One thing we all have to realise is...the moment tomcat runs together with LxAdmin, it will hog up resources. It happened to me. Can't add too many domains to have JSP capability. It is a ram killer...

Yes, java has serious problems on openvz due to its peculiar memory management.

Use Xen or a dedicated, if you want to run Java. You cannot run Java properly on Openvz.

If not bundled, at least easy to integrate (ie. enable for certain clients, work in a shared environment). If this is already possible and someone has a tutorial on it, do use PM or a new thread as not to hijack this topic.

Do you want a Java server in LXADMIN[ 7 votes ]
1.No 0 / 0%
2.TOMCAT 4 / 57%
3.JBOSS 2 / 29%
4.GLASSFISH 1 / 14%

I'd prefer to have J2EE capabilities, some apps just don't run on Tomcat.

Well I run apache on LxAdmin instead and integrate Tomcat with mod_jk. similar to how CPanel does it. only difference is whenever I add a domain to allow JSP, I have to manually edit the configuration files and restart tomcat and apache.

It is great to have this ability and make my clients happy, but it makes my system slower ever since I started using Tomcat on the server which then makes my clients unhappy due to slow performance.

Its a trade off. So now I have a dedicated server for those that wants Tomcat and another that doesnt request for Tomcat. So those who wants Tomcat, will have no choice but to deal with the slow performance.
