pure-ftpd is not installing normally on CentOS 5.4 systems. This happens on four independent installations on clean OS installs with dedicated hardware.

The conflict seems to be happening with openssl which needs to be downgraded to version 4.1 after kloxo install. Otherwise kloxo will not start. Downgrading also removes mod_ssl for which there is no comparable package in the lxlabs.repo

After the downgrade kloxo will start, but returns the error: ../bin/common/function.sh: line 28: 8068 Terminated $__path_php_path $__path_server_path $string > /dev/null 2>&1

pure-ftpd cannot provision user accounts and therefore ftp connections fail. Even after performing the folowing actions:

/script/upcp
/script/fixftpuser

I've searched the forums and this does not seem to be an isolated incident.

I believe the problem to be the missing mod_ssl package.

There are specific instructions on how to NOT remove mod_ssl in the first announcement in Kloxo KB.

I even put some colors on it to get attention. Rolling Eyes

I performed the downgrade as described:

yum downgrade openssl mod_ssl httpd
service kloxo restart

...and although kloxo is now starting normally, pure-ftpd still cannot provision users.

Excerpt from /usr/local/lxlabs/kloxo/log/shell_exec:

12:11 Apr/05/2010: 32: You must give (non-root) uid and gid
[(__system__:/usr/local/lxlabs/kloxo/httpdocs) 'pure-pw' 'useradd' 'test' '-u' '-d' '/home/admin/' '-m']
12:11 Apr/05/2010: pure-pw usermod test -N '' -m
12:11 Apr/05/2010: 16: Unable to fetch info about user [test] in file [/etc/pure-ftpd/pureftpd.passwd]
[(__system__:/usr/local/lxlabs/kloxo/httpdocs) 'pure-pw' 'usermod' 'test' '-z' '0000-2359' '-m']

Sorry to open an old topic, but I found the solution.
I'm having the same problem with the installation of a dedicated kloxo.

- I can not ftp authentication.

Unable to fetch info about user [username] in file [/etc/pure-ftpd/pureftpd.passwd]

I could not find the solution in the topic

Is your CentOS install up-to-date?

Check with "yum check-update". If not, "yum update" (seeing you have a dedicated server, a reboot is recommended if there are kernel updates).
