DNS Zone Records Disappear [message #62555]

A client of mine has had all of the records in their DNS zone disappear. Fortunately, all of the actual records are still in the name server and they are still in the named zone files on the hypervm name servers (so we're not experiencing a total DNS outage right for this zone yet), but there appear to be no records in the database for the zone in question. The error happened when the client did the following:

I went to add an A record to my zone for a new xen vm. I clicked on the DNS button and went to the screen to manage DNS. I mistakenly clicked on "Add NS" instead of "Add A". I made no changes on the "Add NS" page nor did I click the "Update" button. I click on the "Add A" record tab, added the A record, and received an error after click "Update" that said "Cannot add A record, no NS for zone" or something to that effect. After that, I tried to view all of the A records for the zone and none were visible.

This particular client has a lot of records in their DNS zone. It is important that I get those entries back and get the system functioning again so they can add entries by themselves because they do so all day long.

I'm wondering if Hypervm has the same issue as LxAdmin did with large dns zones. I'm also wondering how to import a zone into hypervm from the named zone configuration files.

I've got to get this zone back and right now I'm looking at manually re-entering it, which I'm concerned that after doing this for a few hours will end up with the thing blowing up again.

Lxhelp -- any word on this?

Still looking for guidance on the zone that has disappeared. I'm doing all the updates by hand to the zone file right now.

There was a problem with older lxadmin, which is fixed now. Large dns records and database would get corrupted. This was fixed.

Please update hyperVM to version: 7292, and then it won't happen again.

Really sorry for the bug. This was an old bug. Newer installations wouldn't face the problem.

Do you have any suggestion on how to import the zone back into HyperVM? I have the zone file and doing this by hand, while possible, is something I'd like to avoid.

You can use command line to add all the zones back. Please search the forum for the commands.
