hi, maybe has been discussed already but i didn't find a thread..

first, a kind of bug or strange implementation:
the totdisk doesn't show right values...

TotDisk 37.6 MB 50 MB
MailDisk 4.5 MB 50 MB
Cdisk 37.6 MB -

but qmail says " _Unable_to_write_to_temporary_file_-_possibly_out_of_disk_sp
ace./"

then, the real problem: the disk quota should be separated from the website space, logs, and other files.

emails are too much important, and so they should have a dedicated quota.
many of my customers (i run 4 servers with lxadmin) had problems in the last months: they don't get emails beacause the totdisk was filled by error-logs, or other files generated by the server.
even if the fill their web space by ftp i think email should not stop working. i don't care if they are not smart about computer, but if they complain that "emails are not arriving" they put me in trouble.
i believe this happened to many other resellers..

tnx,
marco

Mail quota is part of the user quota.

This MUST be done that way and I personally do not believe that LxLabs should change this. This is because you must give your client a quota of (for example) 1GB. If they use 900mb of files, then they can have 124mb of emails, logs, etc. It would be bad to assign a file quota, an email quota, a log quota, etc.

would be ok if TOTDISK worked correctly accounting LOGS in realtime.. Smile
otherwise customer see TOTDISK is less than maximum but mails are not arriving

btw, plesk has the option to include LOGS in the TOTDISK or not, it's admin's decision, if it's an easy option to include in LXADMIN it would be a nice to have i think.

a note: there is a MAILDISK quota setting, it is not a problem filling that value when you create a new client, so i strongly believe that having the option to separate mail, log, web space is very important for a product. i dont want to give to customers 10GB totdisk only because they get 9GB of logs per day..
one good thing about LXADMIN is the wide set of options.. adding other important options should help to become the favourite hosting panel, if the admin doesn't want to waste time he can accept the default options,

ciao

Our original design was where mail quota was 100% separate. But then people complained and they wanted a cpanel like design. But actually you are right, and we will switch to a 100% separate mail quota design.

thanks.

Actually, sorry. The linux quota implementation is in such a way that mail quota and disk quota are considered the same, since they are both OWNED by the same user.

Linux calculates quota by adding together all files owned by a particular user, and so that's the design.

thanks.

yes, i understand,
if you can find a way to give such option to have mail quota and web space quota separated would be great !!

i had many customers complaining they don't get emails,
and also some resellers (quite skilled) that complained about totdiskspace, logs, etc..not being "100% proof in realtime" to find problems.

tnx,
ciao

Yes, that's also an issue. We will increase the number of times the scavenge is run.

thanks.
