Yum update today tried to pull a bunch of PHP updates from lxlabsupdate repositories that have no connection with HyperVM, basically trying to replace CentOS/RHEL stable 5.1.6 PHP with a lxlabs 5.2.6-5 version.

Since there is no apparent reason for this behaviour, I consider this a bug.

Once again, a major system altering update with no release notes or warning whatsoever.

We solved this temporarily by using yum-priorities module. Btw, why is lxphp trying to install the libmcrypt-2.5.7-1.2.el5.rf instead of CentOS/RHEL libmcrypt-2.5.8?

The Champion
It seems only CentOS 64 bit has the libmcrypt, and 32 bit is lacking it, and that's why we are providing the libmcrypt. This is a bug in CentOS actually.

Yes, I noticed that CentOS is pulling only the x86_64 version of libmcrypt although i386 version is also available in their repositories.

Odd. I'll look into this and report the bug to CentOS maintainers if necessary.

Any chance you could setup lxlabsupdate repositories in such a way that CentOS PHP doesn't get updated on HyperVM nodes?

I also noticed that rrdtool has a much newer version on rpmforge than currently used. The 1.3 branch seems to have some interesting new features and is much faster and more efficient. Perhaps this is something worth looking into.

Regards.

On HyperVM, just remove the PHP, since you don't need it at all.

We will update rrdtool.

 yum remove php

It is best you remove both httpd and php on hyperVM nodes.

Unfortunately, we currently need to run our own customized PHP 5.1.6 on the nodes and we'll have to do this until RHEL 6 comes out. And when it does, we'll need to run it's version of PHP again.

I guess this problem existed before but we didn't notice since we don't use 32-bit nodes. Now that you added 64-bit PHP packages for Kloxo in the repositories, the problem appeared...

Changelogs, guys... Smile

Perhaps using separate repositories for Kloxo and HyperVM would be a cleaner approach but I'm not familiar with your internal development structure, so thats up to you to decide.

Hello,

Yes, we added 64 bit packages to repo. It will be difficult for us to manage two repositories. We always try to provide latest PHP. You may have to mange it with latest version.

Your PHP version looks to be a bit dated. Since there are no changelogs, it's hard to tell. Anyway, like in any stable enterprise environment, our PHP needs to stay on the same version for the entire RHEL lifecycle.

Don't worry about it, we are using yum-priorities so this is solved.

Thanks.
