Looks like 'yum' installation is corrupted or not installed. Please try reinstalling it. You can get the correct yum package for your version of CentOS from http://mirror.centos.org/ . Simply select your CentOS version from there.

Thank You.

You should use 'Uvh' with an upper case 'U'. Please give me the output of:

cat /etc/redhat-release

And I'll give you the exact commands to use to re-install yum.

Use:

rpm -ivh http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.4/os/i386/CentOS/yum-3.2 .22-20.el5.centos.noarch.rpm

In case it shows dependency errors (may be a maximum of 5 to 7 dependencies)you can simply add the packages it is asking for from http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.4/os/i386/CentOS/ . If you are unsure about the dependencies, please place the output after issuing 'rpm -ivh http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.4/os/i386/CentOS/yum-3.2 .22-20.el5.centos.noarch.rpm '

(This is for normal 32-bit OS, make sure you have a 32-bit OS, using the command 'arch' (type this and just hit ENTER) , if its 63 bit it will return 'x86_64' and in that case, download the packages from http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.4/os/x86_64/ )

(Sorry if i have made it sound complicated Smile )

that is fine, you can use the i386 link for i686. No issues.

Thanks for your answer.

Being an absolute beginner, I have no idea how to download the yum rpm and where I should save it?

You can download it from http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/ . If you give me the Centos version that you have on your server I can give you the exact URL.

To know the centos version check the file /etc/redhat-release .

------
cat /etc/redhat-release
------

You will find all the required RPMs at http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5/os/i386/CentOS/ (assuming you have a 32bit OS).

You can install the rpm using 'rpm -ivh' command. For eg: to install the rpm yum-3.2.22-26.el5.centos.noarch.rpm (YUM) use the command:

--------
rpm -ivh http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5/os/i386/CentOS/yum-3.2.2 2-26.el5.centos.noarch.rpm
-------

If it returns any dependency errors, you can find the other rpms to meet the dependencies at the same URL.

Just checking if I understand this now:

The first thing I do is:

rpm -e yum

The second is:

rpm -ivh http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5/os/i386/CentOS/yum-3.2.2 2-26.el5.centos.noarch.rpm

That's it?

yeah, thats it. Try it and update here if you come across any issues. You can download the more required rpms if you come across dependency errors.

It returns:

Quote:

rpm -e yum

error: Failed dependencies:
yum is needed by (installed) yum-conf-1.0-101.rhe5x.iworx.noarch
yum >= 3.2.19-16 is needed by (installed) yum-utils-1.1.16-14.el5.centos .1.noarch
yum >= 3.0 is needed by (installed) yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-14.el5.cent os.1.noarch
yum is needed by (installed) interworx-4.3.0-299.iworx.noarch

Do I have to stop the server before "rpm -e yum"?
Will the removal/new installation of yum mess up my Interworx control panel?
