Interest in Zimbra[ 8 votes ]
1.Zimbra would seem interesting but I like to keep it separate from Kloxo 1 / 13%
2.Zimbra would seem interesting and yes, integrate it in Kloxo 5 / 63%
3.The mail solutions of Kloxo are sufficient 1 / 13%
4.I prefer another mail solution than Zimbra (mention in your reponse) 1 / 13%

In my feature request #853 I propose integration of Kloxo with a separate Zimbra server setup. Zimbra allows mail account creation through a script when a new mail account is added in Kloxo. So you could use Zimbra separate without any integration and use it to set up new mail addresses (first poll option) or you could let Kloxo take care of it (second poll option). The set-up of Zimbra would be separate and not included in the Kloxo project, but possibly this could be distributed separately as a OpenVZ or Xen image.

Please let know what you think by participating in the poll and comment if you know a better alternative than Zimbra and why it would be better.

Please note that the Open Source version of Zimbra might not include all the mentioned features!
See the comparison table:
http://www.zimbra.com/products/compare_products.html

Supposedly the appliance version would equally allow Kloxo integration as the Open Source version.

I vote NO. Anyone familiar with Open Source philosophy will vote the same. They heard about the benefits of open source but they fail to understand what open source means. What they are doing is the similar of the MS philosophy : "criple the software and call it Home Edition". No one in open source community criple the software intentionally. I have much more respect for companies that close the code and give you the software in full. You may not be able to improve the code but at least you have all the options PRO package has. At least it will help you out untill you find more suitable open source solution. This Zimra thing is vaste of time.

I am interested in Zimbra. I will be testing it out as standalone. I vote that if this were to be integrated into Kloxo, it should be fully completed and not tested on the Kloxo community through the use of the updates.

I think this feature request could be expanded.

Why not allow Kloxo to run pre/post-<action> scripts?

Something like /script/actions/post-addmail.sh . Once you add the mail account to Kloxo, it runs the pre/post scripts with arguments (nname, pass, mailbox limits, etc). If you want to create Zimbra accounts, just add the code to the script (ssh zimbra@mailhost 'zmprov... $1 $2...').

That could be very useful for many things: adding dbs to Postgresql, configuring replication, cronjobs (rsync?), managing varnish/nginx/apache/lighttp proxies or whatever.

So people don't have to wait for new features. Just hack a "post" script to do what you want. Smile
