Hello,

Regarding installapps update, How often does the installapps upgrade? (e.g. wordpress in installapps is 2.0 while the latest version of wordpress is 2.3.2)?

For instance, one of my user is currently using one of the plugins, lets say "wordpress", he already design the template and using the blog very often. And then, lxlabs upgrade the installapps of wordpress. When the admin of lxadmin click the "update home" to upgrade, will the wordpress of the domain user will also be updated? If not, how does the domain user upgrade his existing wordpress?

regards,

--reynan

Installed applications has to be upgraded via their normal upgradation mechanisms. We will actually see if we can add the upgrade option.

When we upgrade installapp, it will be automatically updated, when lxadmin is updated.

Hi,

Have you come up with an update strategy? You provide a lot of applications so you should have some means of constantly providing their latest versions.

For example there is Joomla 1.0.14 (security fix) and Joomla 1.5.1 Stable already. InstallApp still has 1.0.13 only. This does not look good at all in the eyes of our customers.

Please, think of some way of automatic software updates or at least some schedule of InstallApp releases.

Thank you.

I agree, this should be a separate update for each one to keep them all as current as possible. for example phpBB is still version 2 but 3 has been out for a while now.

In the (somewhat) near future (december 2008), Zantagonox will be releasing an auto installer and it will support autoupgrades. I will attempt to make it integrateable into LxAdmin.

Until then, you will need to have someone update the scripts manually, which I can do for $5 each, which is less than what most people would charge (but we do have bulk pricing).

Let me know what you think about that.

Is there any update on this? I'd like to see a way to have applications updated to the latest version from LxAdmin.

We have a team fully working on this. We will have every single feature found in other installers. InstallApp is the most critical part of lxadmin.

thanks.

Hi,

Do you know when all the install apps are working fine after installation?

Zencart, drupal and oscommerce are still giving "internal server errors".

I just lost a customer because of these problems.

Steven

We will have the new relase by Monday. In fact, if you consider Lxadmin after yesterday's update, we have added every single feature that was needed, and this is the ONLY problem with lxadmin now.

We will trim the list of apps to the more important ones.

thanks.

Hi,

Do you have any information when all the install apps are working?

I still see the same errors after installing them.

Kind regards,

The delay is primarily because, I have a separate team working on installApp. We will definitely have a release this week.

As such, lxadmin is now 100% feature complete, and the only thing we are working on is installApp, and a completely interface redesign.

We are now fully focussed on making installApp the best app installer in the industry.

The SaaS application model will be a critical part of lxadmin, and we are extremely serious about InstallApp. We will have a release this week.

Thanks.

Hello?

You are facing problems because you are running suPHP. The applications work very fine on lighttpd and normal apache mod_php.

suPHP needs some paranoid permission settings. Anyway, we will fix this.

I have fixed all the issues in many of the applications, and now installapp is a proper separate system. You can update installapp applications, by doing this:

 /script/installapp-update

Also, you can install an application on a website, using commandline.

 /script/add --parent-class=web --parent-name=domain.com --class=installsoft --v-appname=wordpress --v-installdir= --v-installsoftmisc_b_s_admin_email=youremail@youremail.com

thanks.

On one server alone switch the php mode to mod_php . We will fix the problem with suPHP soon. But till then, installapp will work fine if you use suPHP.

thanks.

Hi,

I have tested untill now two apps, zen and cubecart.
Zen still gives an internal server error and cubecart gives
a MySQL error, the same errors as before the update.

Is this because the account is running on suphp ?

Kind regards,

Steven

Zencart is working fine here on suPHP too.

You have a permission problem at the core, and that's why it is crashing.

DO this:

 chmod 775 /home/clientname/domain.com

Also, check the logs. I am sure you will be able to see suPHP errors regarding permission.

Anyway, zencart works PERFECTLY now on all systems. Check the apache error log and fix the suPHP problem, and it will work fine.

Hi,

The permissions are the default ones when an account is created.

public_html ->/home/...... 777
domain.com 755
zen 755

so that mus be ok.

The error log shows f.e.: index.php" is writeable by others

So it is an permission error.

However this is a default setup, so installing an app should work without any change.

Kind regards,

Steven

/home should be 755.

The internal permission is now proper. Please make sure the permission for /home is 755 and /home/clientname is 750.

Btw,

You have to run the installapp-update on ALL slaves now.

Currently it is a separate program. We will integrate it with lxadmin cluster very soon.

Most likely the zencart on the particular slave is older version.

thanks.

Yes, that's ok. Now you can try installing zencart it should work fine.

We will be integrating the installapp-updater directly into lxadmin itself, and lxadmin will update all the installapp everywhere in the cluster every week.

Hi,

I have tried to install Zen as an example.
The installation is ok now and it seems that the permissions are fine.

However, aftr installation the base url is set to:

base href="http://domain.comzen/" /

instead:

base href="http://domain.com/zen/" /

So all the links and the stylesheet are not working.

This is the same for all the links that are created

a href="http://domain.comzen/index.php?main_page=log..."

So it seems that a "/" is missing during the installation.

Kind regards,

Steven

It is a very terrible bug in zencart. But I have fixed this.

Run /script/installapp-update on the slave, and then you will be able to install it in directories too.

It works fine even now if you install it in document root.

thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

This is working now.

I have checked a Drupal installation.
It seems to be installed properly.
Before the installation you can add an admin e-mail address, an admin username and you see this: Message: Password Will be Sent to Email

However, for me it is unclear to witch Email address the password is send and (checked the logs) no Email is send.

So after installation i do not know the password.

Please note, i am only checking this because i know how customers would react. I really appreciate your work.

Kind regards,

Steven

Hi,

I have updated to the latest version.

However, i still see the same screens and Message: Password Will be Sent to Email but no e-mail is received and i am not sure to witch e-mail address the mail will be send, to the Email address i enter in the admin field or to the default Email address that is attached to the account.

On some other install apps the username and password is default:
username : password.
Maybe you could make that for Drupal also.

Checked some other apps:

Phpbb: working fine
Eggblog: working fine
Calender: workng fine
Everydns: Internal Server Error
Shopscript: Internal Server Error
Phpshop: You must enable magic_quotes_gpc in php.ini in order to run phpShop

If you want i will check all the apps and let you know the result.

Kind regards,

Steven

Drupal now works fine. Just run /script/installapp-update and then you can add drupal. You can add drupal via commandline:

 /script/add --parent-class=web --parent-name=domain.com --class=installsoft --v-appname=drupal --v-installdir=directory --v-installsoftmisc_b_s_admin_email=email@dom.com --v-installsoftmisc_b_s_admin_username=admin

To find out the exact set of commands to add an application, you can use reflect:

 /script/reflect --type=add --parent-class=web --parent-name=domain.com --class=installsoft --v-val=drupal

Thanks.

You should wait for a couple of days, by which time we will update all the applications to the latest version.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

The intallation of Drupal is ok now.
The password is send to the admin e-mail address.
However, during the installation this is a bit unclear.

I will wait for a few days.

Thanks for your work for this!

Kind regards,

Steven
