It may be unusual to post about an application in technical help for lxlabs....... however it seems that here is a basic configuration issue between lxadmin and magento.
I have installed Magento several times by hand and now have installed magento using INSTALLATRON --- every time the same admin issue.
After its installed Magento has a utility called magentoconnect using pear to install addons.
The problem is that any addon & Magento seizes up.
Magento provides no alternate method to install extensions so this has to be solved!!!
I had hoped using a known reliable installer would solve the issue.
NOTE: I have changed permissions on folders like a madman for a week and tried every possible setting I can think on 777, 775, 755 etc...
All to no avail, on ALL other competitive CP systems I assume this is NOT a problem or forums would be full of complaints, but I have checked and no one else is yelling.
I realize saying lxlabs is responsible to try to fix an application permission or configuration is not normal, but I really have to turn to lxlabs for help with this, as it has to be something lxlabs has done to cause the issue... I think???
Like to see?? :: to test go to user bbudd and install in specialtydoors.ca ::; then use magentoconnect in admin to see issue.
or go to doordepot.ca and test there yourself you can log into as s_admin and 1qaz2wsxcv <http://doordepot.ca/index.php/admin>
The Magento menu in doordepot.ca after I added a extension is completely frozen.??. why, why, sob, tears??
This is a test site and will be destroyed so feel free to do what ever you need.
Magento is powerful and is a required script on my server, there just has to be some simple answer to this ongoing nightmare.
============================================================ ==
PS to Installatron Users - when installing Magento Installatron uses InnoDB tables not Isam.
I found this command supplied by lxlabs that was so, so, so simple to change VPS mysql to InnoDB type if your using openVz.. pre installation this will save you hassle as install fails if you don't.
cp /etc/lxlabs.saved.my.cnf /etc/my.cnf
service mysqld restart

To show difference if you go here
<http://www.specialtydoors.ca/admin>
s_admin
1qaz2wsxcv
and test backend here I have not used magentoconnect to add anything on this site, you will see its working, but if I would use it to add anything the admin will freeze.. its got to be permissions or ownership, but I see nothing..
is anyone else using magento and having issues??? or not having issuesZ??

magento is a major, major application and if not working for me and other users I am sure harms the entire lxadmin system. There is some aspect of the lxadmin & centOS install using apache that is unique and causes issue. It almost has to be a permission or config problem.
MORE INFO: the 2 sites I posted are same except in doordepot I installed a extension using the magentoconnect system under system in the CP. Any time adding any extension I get the same frozen admin result.
Please look into this and reply, I have spent hours on magento forum site and see no postings with a similar complaint. The only way to see the FROZEN result is to log into each, lxadmin has asked for more info on the issue I am unable to detail further without your viewing, but I would try please ask and questions you want....
thanks again

Are you using apache or lighty? Switch to apache/mod_php
I am sure it is a problem with cgi php.

That's a bug in magento. It is not reported widely because, most of the e-commerce hosting happens as standalone machines, and not hosted on Cpanel/DA etc.

Please post in your other thread also that the problem is solved by switching mod_php.

Magento is an open source eCommerce solution. It comes with a variety of tools, necessarily for building a successful online shop.Magento offers a lot of built-in capabilities, such as promo pricing and coupon codes, detailed statistics, and SEO options. You can also find great free Magento themes
