Lxlabs,

The icon "Fix centos DEV" still not creating the PTY TTY dev files.
When a customer restarts his VM, he never gets into ssh anymore. I always have to do the MAKEDEV myself because the Fix centos DEV is not fixing it.

The commands neede to do manualy by me on the HW node is:
vzctl exec vpsid /sbin/MAKEDEV tty
vzctl exec vpsid /sbin/MAKEDEV pty

Can you create a new ICON for the VM's with "Fix PTY/TTY errors" and execute those 2 lines? it would solve me a lot of helpdesk tickets.....

And it happens on a lot templates. centos, ubuntu, debian, fedora etc etc. I could not find a way to permanently solve this, and now i am tired of doing this. Sometimes i must do fix it 10 times a day for a one cutomer.

I hope you can create a new icon for it so customes can fix it theirselfs Very Happy , or solve it permanently so it never happens again.

Thank you!

regards,

Also,

If you can, the Ubuntu / Debian version would be nice:

vzctl exec VEID update-rc.d -f udev remove

Edit: @OP - Those two lines *can* be run via "Command Center" though that is far from ideal. I would like a button and perhaps this to be run automatically at some suitable point too.

We hack around this. We have a cron job on the node that runs every 10 minuets to repopulate /dev on the VPS (/root/veid/dev) from the main /dev on the host node

HN or VE ?

And if VE, how behaves that with different type of distro's? (slackware, suse, debian etc etc)

We get this issue quite often as well. Clients get very angry and start blaming us for it.

The issue tends to happen quite often with the Ubuntu distros and Gentoo. Not sure about some other ones though...

From what I have read, it happens on CentOS VPSes as well when you update the kernel. I know it happens when upgrading the udev, but I don't know when it happens other than that.

You can see here ( http://www.ipcguide.com/beta/2009/05/23/server-refused-to-al locate-pty/) how this can be fixed. Please read to the end as you must follow precise steps to get it 100% working. Just pop that file into all of your VPSes and you will have no more problems.

No. I want a sollution to not go into each VPS myself.

If it happens, the customer has to solve it by him/her self with a click on a button like [fix ssh pty problem].

It becomes a tedious task with several hundred VPS's. Giving the client the ability to fix it him/her-self would be optimal.
