When doing a fresh install of CentOS, it defaults to using a boot partition and a root partition on the same disk. HyperVM does not know how to mount this and therefore fails. I can start it fine from the shell using xm create. Why does HyperVM even try to mount it before starting the domU with xm create? I just wonder if there is a purpose.

Hello all,
I used to run a number of 'low-end' servers with HyperVM/XEN. These servers would have Dual or Quad Core CPUs with at most 4GB RAM in them.
I have recently decided to consolidate all my machines into 1.
My new machine sports a 4 core (hyper-threaded) CPU, disks in RAID1 and 24GB of RAM.
Using the very simple 'switch server' feature, I have moved all but 1 VPS container to the new machine.
The remaining VPS container seems too big. I have tried using the 'switch server' feature, but this has failed.
The / and /tmp directory each have 20GB. This applied to both servers. The VPS container is assigned 250GB of which 55GB is in use. I assume this is my problem with regards to migrating? The 55GB wont fit in the / or /tmp directory?
If this is the case, what can I do? The old node has 500GB of disk space while the new node has 2TB, so there is space on each, just not on the LVM holding the / or /tmp partitions....
Also, having attempted to migrate several times now, I have found that the old node's / partition is completely full. This only happened when trying to migrate. Further, the VG of the old node is using 378GB of the 465GB available. I would have expected the usage to be 250GB given this is the size of the container, and the only container still running.
Does anyone have any ideas how to complete the migration?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks everyone!

Hi,
I am moving a master and slave to one master box. I am using HyperVM and LxAdmin on all 3 boxes.
I was told to use vzmigrate and it seems to be working fine, except I get this message when I log into the admin panel for one of the newly moved containers:
The VM () Doesn't Exist on localhost. If you have migrated the vps
I tried to do the update from the dropdown, but it still gives me this message.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
We are running HyperVM with Xen, and I need to update the Xen, as I need to install a Windows server 2008 R2 vm, but it just hangs while loading windows.
A normal server 2008, 32bit works no problem.
I was searching the web and found only the latest Xen supports R2.
My question is, can I do a yum update on xen, without breaking hyperVM?
P.S.
This is what I get when I do a yum info xen:

My server OS is CentOS5.4.x64
I installed hypervm with openvz successful but openvz doesn't support MS window for virtual server so I reinstall Centos5.4.x64 and install hypervm with XEN.
The install process hasn't any error, after install I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst and change default = 0. Then reboot!
But server crash and restart and can't boot with XEN kernel. I can't access to server after reboot. I reinstalled CentOS5.4.x64 and reinstall hypervm with XEN but this error still repeat.
Can anyone help me resolve this error?

I have a HyperVM Xen server with 4 VPS's on it that was built on CentOS 5.5 32Bit. I built a New Server to replace this one and this time it was built with CentOS 5.5 64bit.
I ran /script/make-slave on the old HyperVM server to make it a slave and then added the old server to the new HyperVM. then ran "save vps data" on the old server, then run "Import HyperVM VPS" on the new server and got this error. "Alert: hypervm_import_failed"
Please help as I need to get these VPS's moved over to the new server. I don't understand why this is failing.
Thanks

I am trying to upgrade DomU machine from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10. It seems Ubuntu 9.10 uses newer technology and the upgrade is crashing:
init: ureadahead main process (258) terminated with status 5
mountall:/proc: unable to mount: Device or resource busy
mountall:/proc/self/mountinfo: No such file or directory
mountall: root filesystem isn't mounted
init: mountall main process (259) terminated with status 1
General error mounting filesystems.
A maintenance shell will now be started.
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and re-try.
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D to continue):
My research seems to indicate that I need to use a Dom0 kernel version 2.6.31 or above instead of HyperVM default CentOS 5.4 kernel of 2.6.18.
Does someone have a template for me?
Can HyperVM run Ubuntu Xen in 9.10?
Can I upgrade the Dom0 kernel on HyperVM host to 2.6.31 or above?
It seems newer Xen kernels requires xvda instead of sda as root device and before I get this working I will need an updated host kernel.

Hi,
I have read here in the forum about how to import VPS's, but I couldn't understand a single bit how to really create this file.
Lets say that my machine's configurations are stored in /etc/xen and the images are stored in /vps - how do I create this PHP file to import it to HyperVM?
Also, after importing, do I need to reboot those VM's?
Thanks

We are seeking a developer who can create an linux operating system template for our virtual server (VPS) environment (HyperVM/Xen/CentOS/i386).
The centos or ubunutu XEN OS template should incorporate a working GNOME desktop with VNC access out of the box.
An installation of 'Meta Trader 4' a windows based .exe using WINE is also required.
This operating system template will be used on our HyperVM server (i386)

Okay I've manually installed the headers and source for the centos5 xen kernel but I cannot seem to compile modules against it.
I need to add fuse and quota modules to my kernel (2.6.18-128.1.10.el5xen)
What is the best way of doing this???
I found a howto on VPSlink but it doesn't seem to work any longer since the fuse-source package is missing from the repos.

what is the most efficient steps to upgrade kernel? as far as i know it need at least 2x reboot:
1. yum update
2. reboot so host boot on new kernel
3. shutdown all vm
4. run lphp.exe ../bin/misc/fixcentos5xen.php
5. reboot host again
for step 3 i'm having doubt, is it necessary to shutdown the VMs from hypervm so the hdd image will be mounted on the host or can i just shutdown by running service xendomains stop?

Hello,
We're having an issue where our node crashes every time we try to start a user's VM. Is there any way of finding out why and how to fix this as the user does run some websites off of it.

Okay, i am wondering how do i do so. The blank windows image is empty according to hypervm. I am wanting to know how to install windows server 2003 on to hypervm. The main o/s is linux. It is also the master. I am wondering is there a guide? Tut? or something to go off? Also on the linux vps they have to connect to main ip than login, etc. I am wanting to know how can i make it where they login to there main ip address not main ip?

I'm trying to create windows vps from templete. I have tried 2003 and 2008, but the vps doesn't start. It stops in the beginning where it says "Booting from hard disk"
I think I have tried everything.
The only way to make it work is to copy the whole disk of my initial installation, to the newly created vps disk (using "dd of=/dev/..... if=/dev/...)
The output from "tail -f /usr/local/lxlabs/hypervm/log/shell_exec" is

There is an issue with windows where you need to manually make change to the head of the partition to reflect the sector/head size. This is why windows will not boot when the partition size changes. I will fix this sometime.
|
How can this be done manualy?
For me it doesn't start even with the same disk size.
The vps created from normal installation using wincd.img is working fine.
Thank you
